College is an exciting chapter full of new experiences, challenges, and growth. Whether you're a freshman just learning the ins and outs of college or a senior counting down the days until graduation, it can be easy to neglect self-care. From endless assignments and trying to maintain a social life, it is easy to feel overwhelmed and stressed in this environment. Here are a few tips to help you survive the semester.
Prioritize Sleep
Not getting enough sleep and pulling all-nighters is one way to burn yourself out and compromise your health. Prioritizing and setting a consistent sleep schedule will improve your mental health. You should get around 7 hours of sleep every night to relax your mind and body. Create a nighttime routine and limit your screen time before bed to ensure a good night's sleep and wake up refreshed for a new day.
Find Balance
It is essential to put your academics first. However, making time for extracurricular activities, social life, and downtime is just as important. College is all about finding a balance. Finding balance will help prevent burnout and keep you motivated. Make sure you schedule regular study breaks and walk away from the computer, find hobbies that make you content, and make time for your family and friends.
Keep Your Body Nourished
In order to stay healthy and make sure you feel your best, it is essential to eat healthy. It is vital to keep a balanced diet full of fruits, vegetables, protein, and whole grains. Food is your fuel to feel more energized and improve your academic performance. In addition, drinking lots of water and keeping yourself hydrated throughout the day will help prevent your body from crashing. Keep a water bottle on you at all times during the day!
Exercise
Keeping a regular exercise schedule will help not only your physical but also your mental health. Whether going to your university's gym, doing yoga, or going on a walk with friends, it is important to keep your body moving every day. Exercising daily can improve your mood and help release stress. It will also make you feel more productive and satisfied with your day.
College can be difficult, but these few tips can help you keep yourself motivated and feel good each semester!
