Pop culture, or popular culture, is constantly changing and evolving. Every year there seems to be a new popular artist, actor, sports phenomenon, or obsession that it seems hard to keep up with. However, the huge variety of topics and discussions from pop culture is what makes it ‘pop.’ From those who attend concerts to those who prefer sporting events, the diversity of pop culture highlights many of the beautiful aspects of life. It allows people to discover a new side of themselves.
Many areas within popular culture have groups of people who have the same interests. There’s a group for those who love TV shows such as Gravity Falls, Friends, or NCIS. A similar thing can be said for musical artists and their fandoms such as the Beyhive, Arianators, XO’s, etc. The artist that someone chooses to identify with affects the people they interact with and their forms of expression. Even the sports teams, like the Ravens or Chiefs, that people choose to align themselves with provide this sense of belonging.
Pop culture may seem like just another form of entertainment on the surface, but if you sit down and analyze the different avenues of expression that can come from this culture, you will realize just how vital it is for our society and our self-identity.
