On Saturday, April 6th, the JMU Greek community came together for the annual Greek Sing event hosted by the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life. This event, where Greek members showcase their pride for their organizations through dance and music routines, has been a tradition since the early 90s.
This year, a record number of 24 organizations participated, including Panhellenic, Interfraternity, and Inter-Cultural Greek Councils. Each organization had the opportunity to choose its own theme and utilize its costumes, music, and props to bring its unique vision to life and add creativity to its five-minute performance.
The Atlantic Union Bank Center was buzzing with energy as each organization yelled their distinctive chants and cheered to support one another’s performances. The arena was packed with parents, JMU staff, Greek members, and general JMU students, all adding to the lively atmosphere with enthusiastic applause and a contagious sense of celebration.
But Greek Sing is not just about entertainment – it’s also about giving back to the community. This event proudly supports The Arc of Harrisonburg and Rockingham, contributing to their mission of empowering individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Last year, a generous donation of $17,000 was made to The Arc, and this year, the aim is to exceed that contribution and continue to make a positive impact.
As the performances concluded, anticipation was built for the announcement of the winners. After the judges from both JMU and The Arc finished inputting their scores on their computers, the directors received the list of winners and presented them to the crowd.
Phi Mu secured the title for Best Props among sororities, while Phi Gamma Delta claimed the victory for fraternities. Delta Delta Delta impressed the judges with their dance moves, winning Best Dance for sororities, while Delta Tau Delta showcased exceptional skill to win the same category for fraternities. Kappa Alpha Theta wowed with their handwork, earning them the title of Best Hands among sororities, while Delta Tau Delta repeated their success in winning the category for fraternities. The overall standings saw Delta Delta Delta and Kappa Alpha securing third place, with Gamma Phi Beta and Phi Gamma Delta following in second place. Finally, the top honors went to Phi Mu and Delta Tau Delta for their outstanding performances.
