A Perfect Fall Day: A Guide to Fall Activities in the Shenandoah Valley

By: Lily Marlowe

Fall in the Shenandoah Valley is one of the most beautiful times of the year. Here is some insight into the perfect way to spend a fall day in the heart of Virginia.

Sugar & Bean Cafe and Baking Company

The perfect fall day starts at Sugar & Bean, a local coffee shop and bakery in Bridgewater, Virginia. Grab a pumpkin spice latte and a seasonal baked good to start your morning. Sugar & Bean offers a new flavor of cake every week and is constantly introducing new bakery items. This small business is family-run and owned and a great local spot to study or grab a bite.

Harrisonburg Farmers Market

The weekly Harrisonburg Farmers Market is a stop you can not miss. Their fall harvest showcases some of their best local produce. Vendors range from fresh produce to homemade crepes to antiques and gifts. Located in downtown Harrisonburg, the farmer’s market is open Tuesday and Saturday 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Skyline Drive

Located in the Shenandoah National Park, Skyline Drive is a 105-mile-long scenic route through the Blue Ridge Mountains. Fall is the perfect opportunity to take a drive or stop along the way for a hike. The Shenandoah National Park is flooded with hiking trails and scenic overlooks. In addition, visitors are welcome to stay and camp in the park, and you might even see some wildlife during your stay. Skyline Drive is a prime viewing spot for colorful trees and falling leaves.

Back Home on the Farm: Fall Festival

Is it even fall if you do not take a trip to a pumpkin patch? Back Home on the Farm has all the fall activities in one place! Their pumpkin patch stretches across 7 acres with over 60 different types of pumpkins. The farm also has a corn maze and a fall festival. The farm itself has over 40 activities including food, animals, and a country store.

The Shenandoah Valley has one of the most spectacular fall foliage in Virginia. These fall activities are just a few of the many in the area but are ones you can not miss out on. Grab a friend and enjoy this beautiful season before all the leaves have fallen!
