College is the time to shape who you want to become, and JMU gives students the tools, community, and encouragement to make that happen.

Finding Your Passion Through Being Involved

With over 450 student organizations on campus, the possibilities for students to find things they enjoy doing are limitless. Joining a club or taking on a leadership role often becomes the first step toward finding a sense of purpose. Being involved helps students build self-confidence and see how their passions can create a meaningful impact.

For me, my involvement was the foundation of my JMU experience. Becoming a Student Ambassador allowed me to develop my leadership skills and share my love for JMU with future Dukes. Through my involvement in a professional organization, I gained practical hands-on experience working with media while also working with organizations that provide services to those in need. Each experience has helped me understand the type of leader I aspire to be. 

Support That Builds Professional Confidence

All students have the opportunity to participate in professional development activities at JMU. The University Career Center allows them to explore career paths, prepare for the workforce, and connect them with a network of employers and alumni. Through workshops and advising, students learn how to communicate their strengths and navigate the professional world with confidence. 

Through my time working with Student Affairs Communications and Marketing, I have grown as an individual and a creative. I have learned how to produce purposeful content and represent the university clearly and deliberately. I have also gained real-world experience with strategy and storytelling that will greatly impact my career ambitions and personal growth.

Your college experience is shaped by the effort you put in. When students engage with the resources available to them, they will grow both personally and professionally. JMU provides the tools, but students bring curiosity and heart.
