It is so easy to get caught up in the hectic swing of things when you are a college student and forget about basic things like caring for yourself. With the season of love among us, here are some tips to practicing self love as a busy college student:
1. Stop comparing yourself to others
It can be difficult, especially if you are a senior, to compare yourself to others, especially when it comes to the pace of your life. Everyone is moving at a different speed to achieve success, and success looks different for everyone. Comparing what you are doing and how you are doing to other people is only holding you back. Focus that energy on figuring out what a successful college and post college life looks for you and aim to achieve that.
2. Move your body
While finding the motivation to exercise after a long day is always hard to do, it is scientifically proven that exercise produces dopamine and serotonin, both of which improves your mood. Finding an exercise that you enjoy is key to this. UREC offers lots of fun classes that are a great way to get your heart rate up while being coached through a fun workout.
3. Make small lists
We would all love to be those people who achieve every single thing they need to do in one day, however that is not possible when you have so many things on your plate in college. One thing I have found helpful is to make a list of 3 things: one school related thing you need to do (example: complete a homework assignment), one housekeeping thing you need to do (example: fold your laundry, and one fun thing to do (example: listen to a new album while driving to class). These short lists make your day seem not as daunting, and it is very satisfying to check your tasks off. As an added bonus, if you complete extra things that were not on your list, then you will feel extra productive at the end of the day.
4. Practice healthy habits
Everyone has their own definition of healthy so this tip can be translated in many different ways. Fueling your body with the food it needs to stay on top of your busy schedule is one way to practice healthy habits. Another way is to surround yourself with people who lift you up, you are a reflection of who you hang out with, therefore being with people who make you feel loved is a great way to practice self love. Figuring what healthy habits you want to follow in your life is a long learning process, however once you get into the habit of following these, your self love will be at an all time high.
