How to Plan a Covid-Safe Vacation this Summer

Most likely, you’ve been cooped up in the same town for the past year, doing the same boring things day in and day out. Chances are you’re itching for a getaway from the monotony.

As of April 27, 2021, The CDC unveiled new mask guidelines and those who are vaccinated are raring for a vacation. I know I am. That being said, those looking to vacation this summer should still take precautions in planning their Covid-safe getaway.

I currently study at James Madison University but my family resides in Florida. As a frequent traveler, I will be giving some tips for planning your much deserved summer vacation (with the help of CDC guidelines of course).

  1. Get vaccinated: While there is controversy regarding the vaccine, I recommend it to those who are able and willing. You will be able to partake in a lot more activities this summer if you have received your FDA-authorized vaccine. The CDC even states that fully-vaccinated travelers do not have to self quarantine or get tested before traveling.

  2. Check travel restrictions: Before you travel anywhere, make sure that your destination does not have travel restrictions like testing or quarantine requirements in place. Keep in mind that traveling domestically this summer is going to be a lot less stressful than traveling internationally because of testing requirements.

  3. Wear a mask: Wearing a mask outdoors is no longer required unless you’re in a large crowd. That being said airports and many establishments still require that you wear a mask at all times. Be sure you pack an adequate amount of masks so that you are not turned away at the door. That would be a bummer.

  4. Stay 6 feet apart: It may be hard to avoid large crowds at those ideal vacation spots this summer. That being said it is still important to wear a mask in large crowds and to stay 6 feet away from other people when possible, even if you are fully vaccinated.

  5. Have fun: While there are still quite a few restrictions for traveling, it is always better to be safe than sorry. Follow these simple steps (as you probably have been for the past year) and you are going to have an amazing getaway. Relax and take it all in. You deserve a vacation this summer!

I hope these traveling tips help and you can start planning your Covid-safe summer vacation!
